Architect Jules Bourgoin (1838-1908) was obsessed with principles of geometrical ornament.
My project is inspired by one of his drawings where he systematizes square divisions structuring a square… (And I like squares!)
Towards Bougoin’s rigorous, mathematical approach, I wanted to explore his drawing very freely, getting each square configuration out of the “number series”.
I had let them become a painting. I gave a name to each of them. And the commun surname :”Jul” (from Julles Bougoin). I gave colours to some of them…
Now they goes together another way. Like a puzzel ? Like a painting ?
